“This is a young singer you will have to hear to believe how good she is, what a voice” (Review from the Clonmel Nationalist)
With word spreading of rising singing star, Emer Dunne, we discover where this multi-talented singer’s journey begun. With her crystal clear voice and her ability to sing almost any genre of music, Emer has delighted all those who have been privileged to hear her.
Emer’s music roots are based in Irish music and she also pursued her love for different styles including classical, blues, acoustic and modern. This guided her to form her own distinctive style. One of her own songs ‘Untold Story’ was recently featured on Irish Television, TV3.
Emer grew up in the small town of Mountmellick, County Laois, in the heart of the Irish Midlands. From a young age she displayed a great love for performing on stage, and a very natural talent in singing, acting and dance.
Singing since she could talk, Emer took part in shows, musicals, and festivals. She was very successful in her singing, receiving memorable accolades and winning many competitions in the various fields.
Joining the Maura Shanahan Irish dance school opened a new perspective for Emer who quickly reached championship level as a dancer. From here she got the opportunity as a solo singer and dancer, to travel with the dance troop to various parts of Europe and Japan, while still only in her teens. It was during this time that Emer really recognised her love for singing and performing, and her passion to pursue it.
Emer’s formal Education ran alongside her artistic development and she qualified with a B.Ed Hons Degree. For the next few years, work, song, dance and study all ran hand in hand. Emer was the recipient of the Crystal Globe award for her acting performance in Griffith College and from there continued to obtain the Licentiate Diploma, qualifying as a Speech and Drama teacher (LLSMD). She also sat her Irish dance teacher’s exams with An Comhdhail Muinteoiri na Rinci Gaelacha, (TCRG) and qualified. And she has choreographed various dance productions in both Irish and modern dance.
With many qualifications under her belt, her passion is to sing, and she is now taking time out of teaching work to focus on her music. Her debut album, ‘Another Land’ was launched into the Irish Midlands music market by RTE Television’s Mary Fanning. It was received with great success, gaining radio play and press coverage. Emer was contacted and highly commended by the management of music legend Leonard Cohen for her version of his beautiful song, ‘Hallelujah’.
Now beginning work on her next album, the future looks bright for Emer.
